Thank you Premier Miles

The Queensland government has announced they will ban new oil and gas developments in the Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre basin’s rivers and floodplains.

The Lake Eyre Basin hosts some of the last remaining free-flowing desert rivers left on Earth.

This is a great outcome – for the communities who call the Channel Country home, for the wildlife that inhabit it, and for the unique natural landscapes that make it a global landmark.

This decision means one of the world’s most significant natural places will be protected for future generations. The Channel Country rivers and floodplains support an extraordinary amount of birds and wildlife, and provide the lifeblood to a huge area of Australia.

Protecting them from the damaging impacts of additional oil and gas projects is the right thing to do.

Local communities, graziers, Traditional Owners, scientists, and thousands of Australians have all been calling for these great rivers to be protected.

Take a moment to thank Premier Steven Miles and Environment Minister Leanne Linard for ensuring that these fragile rivers and floodplains will be protected from oil and gas.

Thank Premier Miles today!
