WRA History

The WRA seeks to strengthen the relationships with our current members, and to engage further with pastoralists, Traditional Owners, tourism operators, small business and community members in the Channel Country region.

In 2010, The Australian Floodplain Association formed an alliance with The Wilderness Society; the Cooper's Creek Protection Group and The Pew Charitable Trusts. This alliance was known as the Western Rivers Alliance, and had membership on the Lake Eyre Basin Rivers Advisory Panel which was formed by the Remote Area Planning and Development (RAPAD) Board.

The Western Rivers Alliance assisted in facilitating a whole-of-stakeholder approach to matters which arose prior to the declaration of Wild Rivers in Western Queensland.
